What began as a mother’s simple wishes for her son has today become a global movement of compassion and service. Mother Easwaramma’s three heartfelt wishes to Sathya Sai Baba—schools for education, hospitals for healthcare, and clean drinking water—sparked the creation of some of India’s most impactful charitable projects. Even after Baba’s Mahasamadhi, these initiatives continue to uplift millions across the world.

From free world-class education to zero-cost healthcare and drinking water projects for rural communities, these services have transformed Puttaparthi from a quiet village into an internationally recognised hub of selfless service.

A Legacy of Service That Grows Stronger With Time

Over the last five decades, the institutions founded by Sathya Sai Baba have evolved into state-of-the-art centres of excellence:

  • Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning – offering free education from primary school to doctoral studies
  • Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences – delivering advanced, multi-speciality healthcare at no cost
  • Sri Sathya Sai Drinking Water Supply Projects – ensuring drinking water access to remote and rural areas

As the Sai fraternity prepares to celebrate Baba’s Centenary Year, these institutions are reaffirming their commitment to continue serving humanity.

Trust Continues Baba’s Vision With Unwavering Dedication

The Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, which manages these massive service institutions, ensures that Baba’s vision remains intact.

“All the works are absolutely going the way he directed us… education, medical, social services — everything continues as per his guidance,”

He emphasised that free, values-based education and completely free healthcare remain core to the mission.

“There is no billing counter at all in our hospitals.”

Unmatched Healthcare — Even Robotic Heart Surgeries for Free

Setting global benchmarks, the Puttaparthi hospital is pioneering free robotic heart surgery — believed to be the first of its kind anywhere in the world.

The Trust is aiming to conduct at least one robotic heart surgery per day, at no cost.

Currently, the hospitals in Puttaparthi and Whitefield perform around:

  • 100 heart surgeries per month in Puttaparthi
  • 100 heart surgeries per month in Whitefield

This amounts to 200 free heart surgeries every month — a truly unparalleled initiative.

Water for the Thirsty: A Landmark Rural Project

One of Baba’s most visionary initiatives was providing drinking water to drought-prone regions.

In the erstwhile Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, the project:

  • Covered 1,621 villages
  • Installed nearly 2,800 to 3,000 km of pipelines
  • Provided drinking water to millions of rural residents

Today, the government maintains the project, continuing Baba’s mission of ensuring water reaches the most underserved communities.

Healthcare on Wheels: The Sri Sathya Sai Mobile Hospital

The Sri Sathya Sai Mobile Hospital takes healthcare to the doorsteps of rural populations. It travels 12 days every month, visiting one village per day of operation. Services include diagnostic tests, minor surgeries, dental care, and referrals to Sai hospitals for free advanced treatment.

A Strong Foundation for the Future

After Baba’s Mahasamadhi, many wondered how his large-scale service programmes would sustain. According to the Trust, Baba created strong systems and a solid institutional foundation capable of carrying his mission forward for generations to come.

Along with donations, the Trust maintains a significant corpus to support ongoing projects. Since 2011, it has:

  • Added approximately ₹800–1,000 crore to the corpus
  • Spent around ₹1,500–1,800 crore on service activities

A Living Legacy of Love and Service

Sathya Sai Baba’s mission continues to inspire millions across the world. It stands as a remarkable example of how selfless service, when rooted in love, can transform lives and uplift entire communities.

From a small village to a global service movement, the Sai mission proves that true service never ends — it only grows.
